New details about the drone incursions earlier this month over Barksdale Air Force Base is pointing to a much more serious/coordinated threat to U.S. military installations than initially reported. Over a FIVE-day period (March 9–15), waves of 12–15 drones repeatedly penetrated the restricted airspace, loitering for up to four hours at a time. That’s a long time to be flying over a U.S. base (and a long time for a hobbyist/commercial-style drone). The incursions forced flight line shutdowns and even triggered a shelter-in-place order—that’s more than a “disruption” at one of the most strategically important bomber bases in the U.S.
.
Barksdale isn’t just B-52’s...it’s also home to 8th Air Force & Global Strike Command. Yet despite reportedly having electronic warfare and jamming capabilities, the drones demonstrated resistance to countermeasures—this has not been confirmed, but if so—it’s a huge gap in security.
.
The drones may have exhibited “advanced, state-level” tech—coordinated swarm tactics, deliberate routing to avoid detection, and non-commercial signal characteristics. Defense analysts assess with high confidence these were not off-the-shelf systems, but custom-built platforms requiring advanced operational knowledge and a well-funded, highly trained network...and estimate the cost of such a swarm between $900,000 and $1.5 million, with hybrid fixed-wing drones capable of extended flight times and long-range control. The use of remote launch sites in rural Louisiana also indicates planning, logistics, and operational discipline...not amateur-type shenanigans.
.
Even more concerning is that these little-reported incidents are happening in other locations....a separate drone incursion happened over Fort McNair on 19 March (in highly-restricted airspace of Wash D.C.) triggerings additional security reviews and briefings to the White House…still unknown if these are related to Iran or some other adversary. These incursions seem to be more sophisticated than previously known & more frequent. We’ll keep you updated: thevigilantheroes
