According to multiple sources, personnel at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar were advised to leave by Wednesday evening (today) as a precaution amid rising tensions with Iran and the regime’s crackdown on local protestors—(again, this is all according to “a U.S. official speaking on condition of anonymity”). Pentagon spokespersons declined to provide any details, citing operational security.
.
Qatar’s International Media Office did appear to confirm the move, stating that the measures are tied to “current regional tensions” and reaffirming Doha’s commitment to protecting citizens, residents, and critical infrastructure, including military facilities. Any additional updates, officials said, will come through official channels.
.
The advisory follows Iran’s June missile attack on Al Udeid, launched in retaliation for U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. While no injuries were reported and the launches were largely seen as symbolic, there was some damage to a geodesic dome used for comms. Iran did reference that retaliatory attack in several posts and speeches—calling it a warning to the U.S. and Qatar.
.
During the nationwide protests in Iran, thousands of citizens have clashed with regime forces—quickly becoming a ‘regime-change’ type of event as rumors that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei may even flee to Russia. According to human rights organizations, the death toll may have surpassed 2,500....and President Trump has hinted that the U.S. could directly intervene if the killings continue.
.
Diplomatic channels remain somewhat active—Qatar confirmed that Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani spoke with Ali Larijani of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council to emphasize de-escalation and propose peaceful solutions...but no word on if these talks will continue.
