Sikorsky unveiled the S-70UAS “U-Hawk” at Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C....and it’s a big leap in rotary-wing warfare—a fully autonomous helicopter without a cockpit and 25% more cargo space. Basically, the U-Hawk transforms a UH-60 Black Hawk into a pilotless aircraft capable of flying fully solo with minimal inputs from a soldier using a tablet. The U-Hawk is on track for its first flight in early 2026.

With 95% parts commonality with the huge UH-60 fleet, the design simplifies maintenance and parts availability while bringing UAS capability to the Army. Sikorsky boasts that the U-Hawk can be commanded by virtually any operator using a simple tablet interface — “from startup to shutdown.”

It’s also able to carry the “Quiver” launch system, allowing the helo to deploy massed “launched effects” — small drones and sensors that provide real-time battlefield awareness and strike capability.
