Federal investigators say the U.S. Secret Service uncovered an illegal electronic device operation within 35 miles of the United Nations that could have crippled cell towers and jammed 911. Agents reportedly found more than 300 co-located SIM servers and over 100,000 SIM cards, some already activated...with many ‘ready for deployment.’

Officials warned the cache could have executed large-scale telecom attacks — spamming networks with up to 30 million texts a minute, knocking down cellular service, and disrupting emergency communications. The raid followed an investigation earlier this year into telecom-related threats against senior U.S. officials; similar operations were reportedly found in California & the Midwest.

Investigators are probing links to foreign actors and possible espionage—but no organization or country has been officially identified. Cybersecurity experts say the setup appears to be something only ‘state-level operations’ could pull off....Forensics teams are now analyzing communications from roughly the 100,000 devices to trace messages, calls & links to organized crime, cartels or terrorist networks...or espionage.
