NATO is accelerating the transfer of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, as nightly waves of Russian drones and missiles—sometimes numbering in the hundreds—continue to hammer civilian and infrastructure targets. U.S. Air Force Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, NATO’s top military commander, said the directive is clear: move fast.

Speaking at a major defense summit in Wiesbaden, Germany, Grynkewich confirmed that the U.S. is working closely with Berlin to redeploy existing Patriot batteries already in Europe, which can be delivered faster than those still on production lines. “Those new units can then replace the ones sent to Ukraine,” he said, referencing comments by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Germany has already provided three Patriot systems and is now weighing a decision to send two more, possibly within weeks. President Trump confirmed Tuesday that German-sourced Patriots are already en route to Ukraine. While the President has withheld long-range offensive weapons for now, he has pledged to ramp up air defense support.

The Patriot—manufactured by Raytheon—is considered Ukraine’s most critical tool for countering Russia’s aerial barrage.

Still, not all allies are onboard. Greece, wary of Turkish aggression, resisted previous NATO pressure to hand over its systems. And while Grynkewich stated “there’s more to come,” he acknowledged that it’s still unclear how many batteries can ultimately be spared or from what NATO countries.

Beyond Ukraine, the stakes could soon rise even higher...Grynkewich warned NATO must prepare for the possibility of simultaneous wars with Russia and China—possibly as soon as 2027. He described a scenario where China strikes Taiwan while Russia escalates in Europe, forcing NATO to stretch its resources thin. Quite ominous for public statements by a NATO/U.S. general officer.
