🌀 We're two weeks into hurricane season. Are you storm ready?

Following a major storm, you may notice Florida Power & Light (FPL) staging hundreds of utility vehicles and crews at the Venice Airport Festival Grounds before deploying throughout the region.

❌MYTH: If FPL is staging in Venice, my power will be restored first or more quickly.

✅REALITY: FPL prioritizes power restoration based on public safety and community needs, not where crews are staged. FPL restores service first to critical facilities, such as hospitals, emergency services, water and wastewater systems, and other essential infrastructure. If your home happens to be on the same electrical circuit as one of these facilities, your power may be restored sooner, but there's no guarantee.

⚡ After a major storm, plan to be without power for at least seven days. Have food, water, medications, batteries, solar chargers, and a way to receive emergency information if the power or internet goes out.

🏥 Do you rely on electricity for a medical device? Register with Sarasota County as a Medically Dependent Person and have an evacuation or backup power plan in place before a storm threatens.
