## Caption

Saudi Arabia has almost no permanent rivers because it lies in an arid desert climate with very little rainfall and extremely high evaporation. Most rain falls briefly and flows through dry valleys called wadis, then disappears into the ground or evaporates. Mountain ranges are limited and there are no large wet regions to sustain year round river systems.
