🏠 Think renting an apartment in Spain is just about finding a nice place on Idealista?

Not quite.

Today I spent an hour on a live webinar talking about renting property in Spain, and one of the biggest things people underestimate is the process itself.

In reality, renting usually looks like this:

1️⃣ Prepare your documents first

Ideally before you even start searching:
✔️ Spanish bank account
✔️ Proof of income
✔️ Employment or business documents
✔️ Bank statements

Many great apartments go to the person who sends a complete document package first.

2️⃣ View properties in person

I always recommend seeing apartments while you’re already in Spain. Photos don’t show everything, and unfortunately some listings aren’t even real.

3️⃣ Reserve the property

Usually with around €1,000 or one month’s rent while the landlord reviews your application.

4️⃣ Wait for approval

The agency and landlord review your documents. If approved, you move forward. If not, the reservation is normally returned.

5️⃣ Sign the contract and collect the keys

6️⃣ Register your address and transfer utilities

This step is important because your local registration (empadronamiento) will later help with healthcare, schools, residency procedures and many other administrative processes.
