The makeup artist addressed the controversy in an Instagram statement on Monday, saying he takes accountability and understands that the criticism extends beyond the product itself. Ta explained that while his goal was to make a makeup technique he loves more accessible, he now recognizes the frustration many creators, particularly Black creators, feel when their contributions are overlooked or go uncredited.

Ta also said he never intended to copy makeup artist Ngozi Esther Edeme, known online as #PaintedByEsther, without acknowledging her influence. Social media users had accused him of profiting from a technique Edeme helped popularize, which blends under-eye concealer and blush for a seamless finish.

Edeme previously addressed the situation on TikTok, saying she was not claiming ownership of the technique but wanted her impact on the beauty industry to be recognized. “What you will not belittle is my influence,” she said.

Ta had also responded to the criticism in May, stating that he had been developing Transition Blush for more than a year and a half and did not claim ownership of the look.
