Trivium, Download Festival 2026

LIVE REVIEW: It’s now been 21 years since Trivium took to the stage at Donington for the first time and left it as instant metal legends, and there is always a particularly reflective buzz whenever they make a return.
Though in comparison to the energetic, point-to-prove kids they were in 2005, 2026’s Trivium is as well-oiled and expertly engineered as a band can be. And in once again placing their fork firmly in the floor of the Apex Stage, they serve up an absolute masterclass.
It’s evident just how in love Matt Heafy is with this festival, and that adoration is reflected in the faces and actions of those who stand before him.
Opening assault ‘Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr’ and ‘A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation’ have the floor shaking like it’s the turn of the century again, whilst a cataclysmic ‘The Sin And The Sentence’ is a real horn-raiser.
The weapons that the band have in their arsenal in 2026 are enviable to say the least. Still, it is only through delivering those tracks with the level of technical respect, brute-force tenacity, and sheer adoration that they can have such a powerful effect.
Rounding things out with a rendition of ‘In Waves’, with a singalong so loud that even the heavens could hear it, it is yet another resounding victory for the Trivium boys in a place where they will always be winners.
May that streak stay intact for many years to come.
