The Color Purple 💜🪻

The announcement that one of my favorite movies has been remade is a great excuse to post these pics from my trip to the South of France last year! The lavender fields there will be in full bloom soon, so in case you missed my previous posts, here are my tips for visiting [SAVE + SHARE]:

1. The lavender fields in bloom every year from around the last week of June to the middle of August in the this region (which is known as Provence). 

2. There are many lavender fields in the region including in Pays de Sault, Luberon, Drôme Provençale, and Manosque. However, many people say that the Valensole Plateau (where I’m at in the photos) is the absolute best spot.

3. To get here from abroad it's easiest to fly into the neighboring city of Marseille then rent a car to make the 60 min drive to where the fields start. However, it's also possible to take a train from Marseille-St. Charles station to Manosque (a 90 min train ride), then get around with a driver, which is what we ended up doing.  Beware, these towns are very small and public transportation is either non-existent or not very good.  So it is worth it to rent a car or arrange a driver in advance!

4. I highly recommend staying for 2-4 days to visit some other towns in Provence. Rousillon and Gordes, for example are very pretty and extremely photogenic!

5. The fields are completely free to visit and sunset is the best time to go if you’re taking pictures.  Also, don’t worry about crowds— the fields are so vast that it’s easy to find spots where you’re completely by yourself.

6. Because the towns are so small, accommodation can be limited. We stayed in a vacation rental in Manosque, so don't be afraid to go down that road if the hotel options aren't looking so good.
