These lawsuits are what are called "economic loss" or "failure to warn" class action lawsuits. The legal argument is basically: "I would not have bought this product, or I would have paid less for it, if I had known that benzoyl peroxide could potentially degrade into benzene."⁠
That is a very different claim than what's being talked about on social media.⁠
