🎮 MINECRAFT “STEVE” BALLOONS 🎈
As a balloon artist and boy mom, I always get a little nervous when Christian tells me his birthday balloon theme. This year? Minecraft.
I’ll be honest—I knew it was a pixelated video game full of blocks and squares, which doesn’t exactly translate naturally into a world built around perfectly round balloons! Creating custom birthday balloons inspired by Minecraft was definitely outside my comfort zone, but I was determined to bring his vision to life.
As I worked late into the night building this custom balloon sculpture, I didn’t feel like a professional balloon decorator with years of experience. I felt like a DIY mom just trying to make something special for her son. In the end, though, that’s exactly what mattered most—he loved it.
This build also reminded me of the early days of my balloon business. Back then, when a customer requested something I had never made before, I often relied on a “fake it till you make it” mindset. Looking back, there were probably times I should have said, “I’ve never built that before, but I’m willing to try.” Giving clients that honesty allows them to decide whether they’re comfortable taking that journey with you.
But then again, if I had always played it safe, some of my favorite balloon creations, balloon sculptures, and custom designs would never have existed. Growth happens when we’re willing to try something we’ve never done before.
So what’s the moral of the story? I’m not sure there is one. Whether you choose to play it safe or take the risk, confidence in your abilities is what carries you through.
For me, this was a day I was a mom who was absolutely thrilled because her son was thrilled. It will always be remembered as the day of the Minecraft birthday balloons… and the day I was diagnosed with Stage 1 ovarian cancer.
Life has a way of intertwining joy and heartbreak in the same moment. Looking back now, I’m grateful for both the memories we made and the reminder that every celebration matters.
