Arizona was named in a major Sinaloa cartel indictment that was unsealed in late April.

Federal prosecutors charged Sinaloa’s governor and nine other current or former Mexican officials, accusing them of helping protect cartel operations tied to drugs moving into the U.S.

The indictment specifically points to Arizona as part of the trafficking route, including a 2022 Phoenix seizure where investigators found fentanyl pills, fentanyl powder, cocaine, and meth.

At the time of the indictment, the defendants were not in custody, but officials said extradition requests had been made and the investigation was ongoing.
