A climber passed away after falling while rappelling inside Keyhole Cave in Sedona on June 13.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded around 1:30PM Saturday after reports of a climber who had fallen inside the cave near the Sugarloaf Trailhead.

When deputies arrived, they found a male climber who had reportedly fallen to the cave floor. Another climber at the scene attempted life-saving measures, but the man passed away from his injuries.

Officials say foul play is not suspected, but the exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation. Visitors were also asked to avoid the area while emergency crews completed their operations.
