🤎🇳🇬✨A huge THANK YOU to authorzendawalker & rebundle.co and the incredibly talented hairstylist who blessed me with these beautiful FREE braids, after EIGHT years. That’s how long it’s been since I’ve worn braids, and wow… I forgot how much a hairstyle could feel like coming home. 🥹🫶🏾 They were at the Beauty on the Block Juneteenth celebration. 🌿✨ Thank you for making me feel seen, celebrated, and so beautiful.

As a Nigerian woman, this experience reminded me that our hair is so much more than hair. It’s history, culture, identity, resilience, creativity, and community. 🇳🇬🤎

For years, I’ve lived in wigs. Partly because I love switching up my look, but also because let’s be honest… maintaining natural hair isn’t always easy. The time, the products, the money, the detangling, the appointments—it’s a journey. 😭😂 And for so many Black women, our relationship with our hair is deeply personal, shaped by beauty standards, workplace expectations, childhood memories, and the constant pressure to fit into someone else’s idea of “professional” or “pretty.”

Sliding back into braids after eight years feels like reconnecting with a version of myself that never really left. It feels soft. It feels powerful. It feels like honoring generations of Black women who wore these styles long before they became trends. ✨👑

So today I’m feeling extra grateful—for community, for Black-owned innovation, for Black hairstylists whose hands create art, and for spaces that celebrate us exactly as we are. 🫶🏾🌍

Happy Juneteenth, and here’s to embracing every coil, curl, braid, and crown. 🤎🌱✨
