While studying bat ecology in the Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil, #NatGeoExplorer Juan Carlos Vargas Mena (jcvargasmena) observed several species of nectar eating bats in the caves of Rio Grande do Norte.

Vargas Mena has been searching for unknown cave-bat fauna to generate insights for the conservation of important, unprotected caatinga habitats and cave roosts for local bats.
