Algeria staged a superb second-half comeback to break Jordanian hearts and claim a crucial victory in Group J.

Jordan looked on course for another historic result after Nizar Al-Rashdan fired them ahead in the 36th minute, sending the World Cup debutants into the break with a shock lead. But Algeria responded in style after halftime. Nadhir Benbouali headed home the equaliser in the 69th minute before Amine Gouiri completed the turnaround in the 82nd minute, sealing a dramatic comeback.

It was a tale of two halves, Jordan's energy and discipline giving way to Algeria's relentless pressure and superior quality. Despite the defeat, Jordan can leave with their heads held high after a valiant effort in their maiden World Cup campaign. The result, however, confirms their elimination from the tournament, while Algeria keep their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds firmly alive.
