Pre-Med Spotlight: Siya Babbar ’27 🫆🔍

Siya was determined not to follow her parents into medicine.
One parent is a physician. The other is an occupational therapist. Growing up around hospitals because of their work, she struggled to picture herself in the same world.

But after losing a high school engineering mentor to breast cancer, she began to see medicine through a different lens.

“Someone with so much spirit and energy should not have passed from her own body attacking itself,” Siya says.

At the same time, her fascination with forensic science kept growing through true crime podcasts, books, and questions about fairness and truth.

At Trinity, Siya realized she didn’t have to choose between science and justice. She found a path that combined both.

Now a biology major on the pre-med track, she plans to become a forensic pathologist, using medicine to help uncover answers for those who can no longer speak for themselves.

Through work in a neurobiology lab, volunteering at a local hospital, and training clients as a cognitive brain trainer, she is developing the scientific and interpersonal skills she hopes to bring into her future career.

Outside the lab, Siya sings alto in a Trinity choral ensemble, reads widely, and has found community through the Alpha Chi Lambda sorority. She sees that kind of exploration as preparation for the doctor she hopes to become.

“In forensic pathology, you need to be curious,” she says. “I would say almost anyone can study the science, but the liberal arts help you learn how to ask questions, and how to make the science digestible for other people.”

Siya knows the road to medical school won’t be easy, but for the first time, medicine feels like a place where she belongs.
“I feel so supported,” she says. “And I’m ready for the next step.”
