🎷 Harlem didn't just influence jazz. Harlem IS jazz. And the people working to keep that legacy alive have something powerful to say about it.

Harlem Late Night Jazz (harlemlatenightjazz) co-founders Dakota Pippins and C. Kelly Wright sat down with Blavity to talk about what it really means to preserve a culture without turning it into a museum exhibit.

"Preserving jazz heritage does not mean treating it as a museum piece," Pippins said. "It means creating opportunities for today's artists to engage with that tradition while bringing their own voices, influences and innovations to the stage."

And in a world of streaming and algorithms, Wright believes the pull of live music has never been stronger.

"People are searching for connection. In a world increasingly shaped by screens, live music offers something deeply human and irreplaceable."

"The future of jazz is not simply about preserving a genre," he added. "It is about preserving the values the music represents: joy, peace, freedom, spirituality and love."
