Before the explosive growth.
Before the sprawl.
There was farmland that fed the people who live here. 🌱

Arizona is known as America’s “Winter Salad Bowl,” and agriculture contributes more than $23 billion to our state’s economy every year. But behind those numbers are real people, real farms, and a way of life that is disappearing faster than many realize.

Every hour, approximately 175 acres of agricultural land are lost to development. That’s nearly 3 acres every minute.

The difficult reality is that farmers are constantly faced with offers that can be hard to refuse. And while growth is inevitable, so is the question: What happens when the land that feeds us is gone?

This isn’t about stopping progress. It’s about finding balance. It’s about recognizing that farmland is more than empty space waiting to be developed. It’s part of Arizona’s identity, our economy, our food system, and our future. When we import food from everywhere else, we become more vulnerable to global shocks.

That’s why we’re proud to partner with localfirstaz, an organization working to build a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable food system in Arizona. Through their programs, they support Arizona’s regenerative farmers, ranchers, and food producers with resources, funding opportunities, and connections that help keep local agriculture thriving, using less water while restoring farmland.

Because every local restaurant, every farmers market, every grocery store, and every family dinner starts with a farm.

And if we truly want to support local, it starts with protecting the people and the land that make local possible. 🌾

What kind of Arizona do we want to leave for the next generation? #SupportLocalAZ #ArizonaAgriculture #ArizonaFarms #LocalFirstArizona #WelcomeToArizona
