After 10 years of fertility issues we sat down with the doctors who explained to Rick and I that our chances of having a child together was nil. After attending therapy to face those big feelings and grieve the life we thought we would have…we surrendered. Rick was the best guy I knew and the thought of him never having biological children nearly broke me. I was a single mother when we got together so of course he would have the opportunity to get to experience a form of fatherhood with Zariyah but in my mind, that wasn’t enough. We always hear, “make sure your choose the best dad for your kids” and when it didn’t happen for him I was so angry because I just knew in my heart, that he was going to be the best dad any child could have. BUT GOD! As Jeremiah 29:11 states, “I know the plans I have for you”…our plans are not God’s plans and boy am I thankful! God was telling Rick to be patient because he’d have a house full! Soon he’d be coaching basketball, football, and softball teams. Soon he’d be going to dance recitals and chorus concerts. Reading bed time stories and tucking kids in. Comforting, loving, caring for, and pouring into them despite DNA. It didn’t matter that none of them was his biologically, that wasn’t his problem. God had given him an assignment and he’s made straight As! He hasn’t always gotten it right but has always had the willingness to learn how to be better! I couldn’t have asked for a better person to assist me in this parenting journey than my husband, who has since 2007 been committed to nothing less than DAD…not step dad, not foster dad, not adoptive dad…but DAD! We’ve never told or forced our children to call him dad, that was something that naturally happened because of his actions and him being intentional. He’s never played about these kids okay, and I love that for them! Happy Father’s Day hubby ❤️ #raisingcultures #fathersday2026
