Happy Birthday to one of the most special young men I’ve ever had the privilege of mentoring.

Parents of athletes in QLD 👋 I need you to read this, and then have this conversation with your kids. Especially the ones who doubt themselves.

Carter was one of the very first kids I mentored in QLD.

He never played Division 1 Representative basketball. He never made a QLD State Team. He was a good athlete who needed to develop his skills and learn how to maximise everything he had. But what he DID have, was belief, attitude, and the ability to completely block out the noise.

I used to tell him constantly…. 

“If you can use that ball to get a university degree, have an amazing life experience, and meet an amazing woman in the USA in the process , I will have done my job.”

He did exactly that. 🙏

Not only did Carter go to college in Iowa where he played both Basketball AND Football, he graduated with Honours. He then went on to earn a Law degree at NCAA D1 St Louis University. And somewhere along the way, he met his now wife. ❤️

A kid from Robina. Never played D1 rep. Never wore a QLD singlet.

Now lives in 🇺🇸 Married. A lawyer. 🫶

He set the foundations on which everything we do at Buzz City Hoops is built and that’s exactly why we have a drill named after him.
