A lot of people think meeting a random person and jumping into bed with them is a win, and for some people maybe it is.

The problem is that when you get attached to someone before you've taken the time to truly know them, you're taking on risks you haven't identified yet. If you skip the process of vetting someone, understanding their values, seeing how they handle stress, conflict, responsibility, and uncertainty, all the things you should have learned in the beginning will eventually reveal themselves later.

The difference is that by then you're emotionally invested.

This is where old wisdom still has value. Get to know people. Watch their actions. Pay attention to how they treat others. Understand where they are in life and what kind of future they're building before you cross certain lines.

Because if you become attached too quickly and later discover you're incompatible, creating distance becomes far more painful than taking your time in the first place.

The things you skip now have a habit of showing up later, usually when you're already in too deep.
