A Final Farewell to Aqueduct ❤️ This weekend marks the final time racing will be conducted at Aqueduct Racetrack, a track that leaves behind a 132-year legacy where it played host to some of the sport of racing’s greatest, both equine and human alike. Sunday, June 28 is closing day.

Take a step back in time with us…On July 15, 1972, Secretariat broke his maiden at Aqueduct. It was the same track, on November 6, 1973, that hosted the great Triple Crown winner’s retirement ceremony for a crowd 32,990 fans.

A Final Farewell to Aqueduct ❤️ The great Ruffian walks the paddock ahead of the 1975 Acorn Stakes, a race she won to extend her remarkable record to eight straight wins. The winning margin was 8 1/4 lengths and a new stakes record was set, 1:34 2/5 in the one-mile test.

A Final Farewell to Aqueduct ❤️ The remarkable Cigar poses in the winner’s circle at the Big A following his win in the GI NYRA Mile Handicap, marking a career-first Grade I victory and kicking off a 15-race win streak.

The race was renamed the Cigar Mile Handicap in 1997.

A Final Farewell to Aqueduct ❤️ The legend himself, Man o’ War, defeated John P. Grier in the 1920 Dwyer Stakes. The race was forever known as the sternest test of Big Ref’s 20 career victories.
