Nothing specific happened.

Yet suddenly my mind was filled with negative thoughts. 

I felt angry without knowing why. 

I didn’t want to talk to anyone.

I could feel myself wanting to cry, but instead I closed my eyes and pretended I was just relaxing, hoping no one would notice the tears quietly running down my face.

Eventually, I took a swim in the sea.

Not because I thought it would fix anything.

I just needed somewhere to exist for a while.

An hour later, something had shifted.

The rage had softened.

The heaviness had lifted.

The thoughts weren’t gone forever, but they no longer felt like they were controlling me.

That’s one of the hardest things about grief.

Sometimes it convinces you that the way you feel in this exact moment is how you’ll feel forever.

But feelings move.

Sometimes slowly.

Sometimes unexpectedly.

If today feels impossibly heavy, don’t assume tomorrow will feel the same.

You don’t have to solve your grief today.

Just stay with yourself long enough to give it the chance to change.
