Q Lazzarus' "Goodbye Horses" might not be well known today if it weren't for a chance encounter with a film director while she was working as a taxi driver. The film director, Jonathan Demme, would go on to feature a handful of Q's songs across his filmography, most notably "Goodbye Horses" in 'The Silence of the Lambs.'⁠ ⁠ The song has since gained a life of its own, from being featured in Grand Theft Auto to being covered by artists such as Kevin Abstract and Chino Moreno of Deftones. The song's themes of transcendence and moving past struggles resonated with fans over the past three decades since its release, inspiring fans and journalists to seek out Q after she stopped releasing music.⁠ ⁠ After fighting to be respected by the music industry for almost a decade, Q succumbed to struggles with addiction and became incarcerated; after going to a rehabilitation program post-release, she virtually disappeared from the spotlight. In 2018, fans managed to find Q living in Staten Island, and she made her first statement in 30 years: “I just wanted people to know I am still alive; I have no interest in singing anymore. I am a bus driver in Staten Island (I have been for YEARS).”⁠ ⁠ In 2024, two years after Q's passing, a documentary she had worked on with a friend (Eva Aridjis) was released.
