“BLUE” is Matt Proxy’s ode to his sister off his debut album ‘trojan horse’ ✍️

Lyrically, it feels like the moment Matt Proxy realizes getting everything he wanted won’t automatically fix what’s wrong inside him…

Throughout the song, Matt exists between two versions of himself. On one side, he’s watching opportunities arrive. Labels are calling, his career is moving forward, and the future feels closer than ever. On the other, he’s surrounded by bad habits, relationships, and thought patterns he knows are slowly pulling him apart. The entire track feels like someone trying to enjoy success while already mourning what it might cost.

One of the most revealing moments comes when he says, “Life is too good, that it started feeling like a Truman.” It’s an unusual comparison, but an important one. In The Truman Show, everything appears perfect from the outside while the main character slowly realizes something underneath is wrong. That’s exactly how Matt describes his own life. Things are improving, but the improvement itself starts feeling fake.

The song keeps returning to that contradiction. He calls himself “an angel and a human in disguise,” admits he’s losing friends while trying not to lose himself, and repeatedly references substances and behaviors he knows aren’t sustainable. Even the title starts to make more sense. Matt isn’t necessarily “blue” anymore. The sadness isn’t the main emotion. The bruises left behind by it are.

“BLUE” is one of his most interesting songs, because it’s not about being at rock bottom. It’s about standing closer to your dreams than ever before and realizing you’re still carrying the same problems that followed you there.

In the credits, he says the song features vocals from a “white homeless couple we found on the street.”

Thoughts? Is this the best song on ‘trojan horse?’ 🤔
