I MADE A BIKINI 🪡 This was such a fun break from all the projects I usually do and I know I’ll be wearing this year round! It look a few tries to get the right fit and look, so here are a few of the tips and tricks I’ve gathered from this project if you’re planning to make your own:

1. Use rubber elastic instead of regular braided cotton. It holds better in the water and keeps shape longer. It’s not sustainable like cotton, but for durability and longevity purposes I went the rubber route.
2. A serger or machine with a zig zag stitch will help tremendously when putting it together. An elastic foot on either machine is a plus, but not needed (I don’t have one)!
3. As for fabric, people typically look for nylon blended with spandex or Lycra; however, there’s a wide range of swimwear fabrics available. You will be more than fine with 1 yard—be sure to get a main fabric and lining.
4. GET A LOOP TURNER to turn out thin straps!
5. Sew at your own comfortable pace. It’s a hassle to remove serger stitches on top of elastic!
