3 AI workflows I actually use in high finance

A lot of people use AI to skip the thinking. I use it to get to the thinking faster.

Three ways I do that:

1. Make it read, not write.

One of the best uses of AI is getting a faster first pass through a long filing, transcript, or research report. I ask it to pull out what matters and show me exactly where each point came from so I can check it myself.

Prompt: “Review this [filing / transcript / research report]: [paste or attach]. Identify the five points that matter most for analyzing this business or industry. For each one, include the exact supporting quote and page, section, or speaker reference. Don’t infer anything the document doesn’t support. If you can’t find direct support for a point, say so.”

2. Stop re-explaining yourself.

I got tired of correcting the same generic output every time I opened a new chat. Now I keep one document with examples of how I write emails, my Excel and PowerPoint formatting preferences, and non-confidential background on recurring projects. I paste it in at the beginning so the output is much closer to what I actually need.

Prompt: “Follow this style guide for everything in this chat: [paste]. Match my tone, structure, and formatting. Don’t add facts or assumptions I haven’t provided. Ask me what’s unclear before you start.”

3. Make it argue with you.

Before I send an analysis up the chain, I ask AI to take the other side. It helps me find weak assumptions and prepare for the questions someone senior is likely to ask.

Prompt: “Here’s my analysis and conclusion: [paste]. Don’t agree with me by default. Argue the strongest case against my conclusion. Rank my three weakest assumptions, give me the three questions someone senior would ask first, and tell me what evidence would confirm or disprove my view.”

The point isn’t to do less thinking. It’s to spend less time on repetitive work and more time on the parts that actually require judgment.

And never paste confidential company, client, or deal information into a tool your employer hasn’t approved.
