If anybody works for the NWS, NOAA or NCEI wants to chat my DMs are open 🤪 Just so everybody knows, keeping track of tornadoes during a year is notoriously tricky while severe weather season is actively happening. Many of the most reliable data sets don't get updated until after the severe weather season is over, sometimes it takes months. So finding data means cobbling together reports from multiple sites and sources. It's messy and time-consuming and easy to make mistakes.  This year the pressure is high because it's so close to being a record breaking or possibly already a record breaking year.  Often times individual offices will confirm or announce totals on social media but I haven't seen any office touch this so far. So until we have official word from them, I'm not sure we can call this record breaking just yet. #illinois #tornadoes #severeweather #illinoischeck #meteorologist
