There’s a particular kind of guilt that lives in your phone at 7:40 in the morning.

You sit there trying to find the words for the school - words that explain why she’s not coming in without making you sound like the problem. 

And every version you type feels like a confession. So you delete it. And you keep her home one more day, carrying a shame nobody else can see.

What took me far too long to understand is that I was apologising for the wrong thing. I thought I was covering for a child who wouldn’t cooperate. 

I wasn’t. 

I was covering for a body that had quietly decided school wasn’t safe - and was protecting her the only way it knew how.

The guilt didn’t lift because I tried harder. 
It lifted because I finally understood what I was actually dealing with. 

And once I did, I could stop explaining her and start helping her.

If you’re sitting there with a half-typed message right now - you’re not failing. You’re just trying to name something nobody ever taught you to see. 🤍
