IVR tells you if vol is high versus itself but you still need to check the raw implied volatility number. Crude oil IVR was 20 but raw vol was 50% and that is still worth trading.

On gamma: if you are worried about it you are probably too big. On weekends: both prefer closing the book or hedging over Friday. Chris audited six years of his own trades and discovered scalping under three days was giving money to the market. He stopped and everything improved.
