About 500 meters away in 2020, Camp Pekiwewin, led by a collective of Indigenous community members & Frontline Workers was launched. They reclaimed the land, providing food, water, shelter, & care for the local community. Camp Pekiwewin stood strong for 112 days, before being violently & brutally swept by both EPS & the City of Edmonton. 6 years later, EPS & so called "Peace Officers" continue their violent encampment sweeps, engaging in a brutal campaign of Neocolonialism & Gentrification against the original inabitants of the land they claim to "Protect & Serve".
