Located on the Upper Lot (Entertainment Center) near the Universal Amphitheater and Shrek 4D, the attraction replaced the Nickelodeon Blast Zone and offered a fun, educational environment inspired by the beloved Curious George books and television series. The attraction featured three distinct themed play zones designed for children of various ages: • Curious George Flies Into Space This outdoor water play area featured a rethemed rocket structure inherited from the former Nickelodeon Blast Zone. Children could explore the rocket while cooling off under water effects, including massive 500-gallon tipping buckets that drenched guests throughout the day. • Curious George Goes to the Jungle An indoor adventure playground where children could climb, explore, and discover hidden activities. This section originally opened in 2001 as the Wild Thornberrys Adventure Temple during the Nickelodeon Blast Zone era before being reimagined for Curious George. • Curious George Visits the Zoo Designed specifically for children under six years old, this area featured age-appropriate play structures and activities. It originally operated as the Nick Jr. Backyard section of the Nickelodeon Blast Zone before receiving its Curious George makeover. HISTORY The site has a long history within Universal Studios Hollywood. The area originally occupied the site adjacent to the Universal Amphitheater and replaced the former Warlord Tower and its surrounding water features. Following the closure of Fievel's Playland in 1997, Universal Studios Hollywood was left without a dedicated children's play area on the Upper Lot. To address this need, Nickelodeon Blast Zone opened in April 2001. After nearly seven years of operation, Nickelodeon Blast Zone closed in January 2008 and underwent a major retheming. The attraction reopened in March 2008 as The Adventures of Curious George, bringing the world-famous mischievous monkey to Universal Studios Hollywood. The attraction remained a popular destination for families until September 3, 2013, when it permanently closed to make way for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Today, younger guests can enjoy a similar water play experience at Super Silly Fun Land, located next to Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem. CHARACTERS Guests visiting The Adventures of Curious George could often meet Curious George himself, as well as other popular Universal Studios Hollywood characters. Despite the removal of Nickelodeon-themed attractions, characters such as Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants continued to appear in the area. The nearby Nickelodeon Stuff retail store remained in operation until the land's closure, providing a home for many of these beloved characters.
