The Walking Dead Attraction | Universal Studios Hollywood (2016–2020)

Step inside The Walking Dead Attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood, the year-round horror experience that brought AMC's hit television series to life. Operating from July 4, 2016, through March 3, 2020, this immersive walk-through attraction placed guests directly into a post-apocalyptic world overrun by walkers.

Developed in partnership with AMC and the creative team behind the television series The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead Attraction featured authentic sets, detailed costumes, advanced animatronics, live performers, and terrifying walker effects designed by Executive Producer Greg Nicotero and KNB EFX. Guests encountered iconic locations and scenes from the television show as they attempted to survive a relentless onslaught of flesh-eating walkers.

The attraction was officially announced at WonderCon on March 26, 2016, following years of successful Walking Dead mazes at Halloween Horror Nights. Universal Studios Hollywood worked closely with Greg Nicotero and his award-winning effects studio, KNB EFX, utilizing original molds, prosthetics, and creative techniques from the television series to create one of the most authentic horror attractions ever built for a theme park.

Constructed inside a brand-new custom-built facility near the theme park's main entrance on the Upper Lot (Entertainment Center), The Walking Dead Attraction marked the return of a permanent horror experience to Universal Studios Hollywood after the closure of Universal's House of Horrors in 2015. The attraction was not recommended for guests under 13 due to its intense content, startling effects, and realistic horror environments.

At the time of its debut, Universal described the attraction as a fully immersive journey through the world of The Walking Dead, allowing guests to follow in the footsteps of survivors as they navigated nightmarish landscapes filled with walkers and memorable moments from the record-breaking television series. The attraction represented Universal's ongoing transformation of the theme park and further strengthened its long-standing partnership with AMC and The Walking Dead franchise.
