Nebraska closer J'Shawn Unger will have the opportunity to represent the United States this summer after earning an invitation to the 2026 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.

The Blair native is coming off one of the best relief seasons in the country, tying for fifth nationally with 13 saves. Unger finished 6-1 with a 4.05 ERA in 25 appearances, striking out 39 batters across 40 innings while holding opponents to a .203 batting average.

Training camp begins Saturday in North Carolina with three days of exhibition games before the annual Stars vs. Stripes series. The final Collegiate National Team roster will be announced July 5.

Players selected to Team USA will travel to Taichung City, Taiwan, to compete in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship later in July.

While Unger prepares for international competition, Nebraska continues reshaping its roster for the 2027 season.

The Huskers added another offensive piece Thursday with a commitment from Cloud County Community College standout Kellan Burke.

Burke, an outfielder and catcher, hit .413 with 21 home runs, 16 doubles and 93 RBIs while helping Cloud County finish 50-7 and rise to No. 2 in the final NJCAA Division I regular-season rankings. The North Dakota native was also the state's 2025 Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year before beginning his junior college career.

Burke joins a transfer class that already includes Iowa pitcher Cole Moore, South Carolina catcher Reese Moore, South Carolina outfielder Caleb Hoover and Illinois reliever Zach Bates.

Nebraska has also experienced significant roster turnover this offseason. Pitcher Cooper Katskee has transferred to Notre Dame, outfielder Max Buettenback signed with Wichita State, and pitcher Ty Horn is preparing for the Major League Baseball Draft.

Head coach Will Bolt continues to add talent through the transfer portal and junior college ranks as the Huskers look to reload following their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
