But I had to come in with our final #FarmFactFriday of #JuneDairyMonth 💃🏼

Let’s give ya some fun facts about dairy!!

🍦 There are seven breeds of dairy cows - Holstein (being the most common), red and white Holstein, Jersey, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Ayrshire, and Milking Shorthorn

🐮 There are over 9 million dairy cows are in the US

🌲 The US dairy industry accounts for less than 2% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Per gallon, it has one of the lowest carbon footprints globally

🚜 There are around 24,000 dairy farms in the US, over 95% of those being family owned

🙂‍↔️ Dairy cows are milked 2-3x a day, and the rest of their day is spent sleeping, chilling or eating

🧀 The dairy industry supports more than 3 millions jobs in America and has an economic impact of over $780 billion 🤑🤯

🥛 Dollar for dollar, dairy is one of the most affordable protein and nutrition sources available (milk is around $0.25-$0.30 per 8 ounce serving)

💪🏼 One serving of milk contains 13 essential nutrients and at least 8g of protein

🐄 On average, a dairy cow weighs around 1,200+ pounds and produces between 8-10 gallons (often more) of milk per day
