For the first time in 14 long years, the Ministry of External Affairs has officially revised the passport fee structure under the new Passport Rules of 2026. If you are planning to apply for a standard fresh or re-issued 36-page passport, the price under the normal scheme has jumped from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500. If you are in a rush and need it via Tatkaal, that fee is climbing from ₹3,500 up to ₹5,000.

Frequent flyers who prefer the 60-page jumbo booklet will also see a bump in prices, with normal processing moving up to ₹3,500 and Tatkaal reaching ₹6,000.

But the biggest financial hit happens if you happen to lose or damage your passport. Replacing a lost 36-page passport will now set you back ₹5,000 for normal processing, and a whopping ₹7,500 if you need it urgently. For the 60-page version, a replacement under Tatkaal tops out at ₹8,500. On the brighter side, fresh applications for minors under the 36-page normal scheme are locked in at ₹1,750.

These changes come into effect from July 1, 2026.
