The question of connection with music is usually a trigger for many dancers, because our culture teaches us to always follow it.

But in my experience, sometimes your body can be a better source of ideas, rhythms, and accents. It is not always a bad thing to disconnect from the music and do your own thing — when that is what you genuinely want to do.

Sometimes the music simply does not match your mood or the moment. And sometimes, honestly, it can just be bad — like bad food or a bad book.
