Trying something different, so I wanted to start doing a series where I do a breakdown of really cool and new songs that I like and try my best to break down what they’re doing in a more unique way that’s accessible. Ella Mai’s ‘Might Just’ has been on repeat for me this whole week, and it’s honestly, some of her in Mustard’s best work.

I’ve been going back-and-forth on how to present this, but I found this might be the best middle ground, but this is basically comparing this song to the average of most R&B songs. I ended up going with integrated because when trying to do short-term and the other one, I kept bugging out, so yeah lol.

Now, dynamics is really cool because this is basically telling you if something’s like way too compressed or not in the most basic sense, and crest factor is sort of kind of telling you, you know, a lot of information that most people would just overlook.

One of my biggest issues as an artist and producer that always showed that I was an amateur was how I dealt with within phase and mono-compatibility. So this chart basically just shows sort of a multi band view of correlation and the tracks mono-compatibility. I actually bought this track just so I could test it at the highest possible quality. No YouTube-to-MP3 rips over here.

Now this is a fun one. This one basically just shows frequency balance compared to average R&B songs. The basically is it sort of in line with it from a tonal balance perspective? Izotope, please don’t sue me 😭

This one and loudness were actually two of the most difficult to dial down, and I still might just end up doing some tweaks because true peak sometimes feels like  one of the more controversial things to talk about in pro audio-related discussions, and I just do not feel like catching the ire of gearspace.com forum members today. I just don’t have it in me today lol.

Still need to do something about this summary. It just seems a little bit sparse, like it should be more of like a checklist, but since this isn’t really critiquing anything, it’s more of observation of just kind of what I’ve noticed around the track based on my tool. I don’t know, but if you
