Manipulation only works when it creates doubt.

The first thing a manipulator does is attack your confidence so you begin questioning yourself instead of questioning them. Once they create that doubt, they can sell you a narrative that benefits them.

So ask yourself: Are you really the problem, or are you simply refusing to accept behavior that violates your standards?

For example, if you're in a relationship and you don't want your partner dressing like they're single just to attract attention from other people, you might be called insecure or controlling.

But maybe what you actually want is respect for the relationship.

Or maybe you're working 12 to 15 hours a day and expect your effort to be reciprocated with support at home.

Someone might label you demanding or controlling. But perhaps you're simply asking for balance and appreciation.

The labels aren't always the truth.

Sometimes they're a tactic to make you doubt yourself so you'll accept a one-sided situation that benefits someone else.

Whenever someone tries to define your standards instead of discussing them, pay attention.

Manipulation begins with doubt, but clarity begins when you stop accepting someone else's narrative without questioning it.
