On this date in 1991, WCW terminated Ric Flair’s contract and vacated the WCW World Heavyweight Championship following a dispute with executive Jim Herd. Flair left for the WWF and, because WCW had not returned his title deposit, kept the “Big Gold Belt” and appeared with it on WWF television as the self-proclaimed “Real World’s Champion.”
