First Constable Yusuf was working as a motor mechanic when Inspector Brett Sampson working next door made a habit of stopping to say hello.⁣

At the time, Yusuf had never considered a career in policing. But what started as a simple conversation set him on a path that would see him become Victoria Police’s first Somalian police custody officer and police officer.⁣

Recently, the pair reunited nearly a decade after that life-changing chat, and Brett was taken aback by the brilliant police officer Yusuf has become.⁣
