How a St. Pete Beach hot dog stand that launched July 4, 1986 became beach stars 1200 Chophouse & Snapper’s 🌭🇺🇲

It’s true. Two of our favorite St. Pete beach gems started as a hot dog stand 40 years ago this Saturday. All Dan Casey and his future wife Diana had was a rented refrigerator, a steam table, a Vienna Hot Dog banner, and his passion for hospitality.

A grandchild of immigrants from Milan, Italy, Dan Casey started learning his way around a kitchen while enrolled at Seminole High School.

On its first day in 1986, the hot dog stand made $86. Eventually, it became Dan’s Beachside, a small seven-table restaurant featuring those same hot dogs.

On Valentine’s Day of 1998, he opened the doors of Snapper’s Sea Grill on Gulf Boulevard. 1200 Chophouse soon followed and today, you can find the next generation, Connor Casey at the helm.
