An exosome is a nanoscale vesicle — think of it like a tiny biological bubble, roughly 30 to 150 nanometers in size. Very, very small.⁠
But here's what most brands aren't telling you: Size alone doesn't make something an exosome.⁠

What actually defines an exosome is how it's made inside the cell. True exosomes originate via something called the endosomal pathway. Essentially, they're formed inside the cell, packaged up, and then released as messengers to communicate with other cells.⁠

They should carry RNA, proteins, lipids, and display surface markers on the outside — things like CD9, CD63, and CD81. Think of these as little flags on the outside that tell the body what they are. Those markers verify their identity as an exosome.⁠

If a skincare brand is calling something an "exosome" without those markers? It's not one.⁠
