The extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machine — made only by Dutch company ASML, is the single most important piece of equipment for manufacturing the world's most advanced semiconductors.

The US, Japan, and the Netherlands agreed years ago that China should never have access to these machines. So when US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick raised concerns that one may have made its way into China, it sent shockwaves through the semiconductor world.
