What is the biggest mistake that parents don't realize they are making?

On this week's Annacone Advantage, we are talking to our tennis parents. 

The most successful junior careers are built on a cohesive, three-part team: player, coach, and parent. The relationship must be one of mutual trust and clearly defined roles.

The Parent's Role is Support, Not Coaching: Your job is to provide stability, transportation, and unconditional love. Your conversations about tennis should be centered on effort, attitude, and sportsmanship, not stroke mechanics or strategy. Leave the technical coaching to the certified professional.

The Coach as the Primary Voice: The player should receive the main instruction and direction from one source—the coach. If you disagree with the coach, discuss it privately and constructively with the coach, never in front of the player. Undermining the coach's authority undermines the player's development.

Establish a Communication Protocol: Meet periodically (not after every match) to align on long-term goals and progress. Ask the coach, "How can I best support what you are trying to accomplish with my child?" This ensures everyone is pulling in the same direction.
