You're staring at your C5 in the garage, credit card in hand, about to drop $400 on an aftermarket intake manifold because some guy on Corvette Forum swore it gave him 30 horsepower. I've been there. Twice, actually.

Here's what nobody told me the first time around: on a bone-stock LS1, that fancy single-plane intake is solving a problem you don't have yet. The factory manifold flows well enough that you're basically paying for underhood aesthetics and maybe a slightly different powerband that doesn't actually show up where you drive. The real move — the one the LS guys who've actually been through the cycle will tell you — is the LS6 intake swap. It's practically a bolt-on, it picks up real torque in the midrange where a street car actually lives, and it costs less than most of the aftermarket options.

Now, if you're already cammed, headed, and tuned? Different conversation entirely. A FAST 92 or a Holley Hi-Ram starts to make sense when the rest of the motor can use the air. But slapping a big intake on a stock long block is like putting 345s on stock suspension — you're outrunning the weakest link and wondering why nothing feels different.

The part that actually bites people isn't the manifold itself. It's the hood clearance issues, the idle quality problems nobody warned you about, and the $500 tune you now need to make it all work together. Add that up and suddenly your "simple bolt-on" is a $1,200 weekend project.

Do the LS6 swap first. Build the motor. Then earn the big intake.
