Rising #TEXASMoody Senior Vanessa Rubio, a Public Relations major, is spending her summer in the utlaprogram interning at not one, but TWO internships at ICON PR and EAG Sports Management and Entertainment Agency!

Vanessa is a Entertainment PR Intern with ICON PR, where she collaborates with a variety of clients, including lifestyle influencers and music artists. She supports both familiar and new clientele, gaining experience across a variety of industries.

As a PR/Management Intern with EAG Sports, she is being introduced to the world of sports in ways not previously discovered. Although Vanessa has experience as an emcee/host with Texas Athletics and has worked with sports content as the content team lead for txadpr, she is eager to broaden her experience and further develop her passion for sports media through her position.

Vanessa’s advice for students looking for a summer internship is to get involved in student organizations, attend career events, update your resume as often as you can and take varying elective classes at Moody. She emphasizes that these experiences are a great way to figure out what your professional interests are!  

“I would say also not to compare yourself to other people, focus on your journey and your passions and to be confident in yourself and how you present yourself,” Vanessa said. “But most of all, it’s OKAY to make mistakes...that is how you learn!”

Vanessa is a recipient of the Roderick Hart Award and the Wofford Denius Scholarship in recognition of her academic excellence and pursuance of an internship in the music industry. Both opportunities, in addition to her two scholarships from UTLA, are helping support her participation in the UTLA program this summer!

Vanessa is the incoming President of Texas Lassos and will be continuing her roles as a #TEXASMoody Dean’s Ambassador, Texas Tour Guide and Emcee/Host for Texas Athletics this fall.
